Ethos the new loudspeaker Martin Logan |
|
At the end of May, Martin Logan launched
the new hybrid Ethos loudspeaker, based on XStat technology, which derives from the flagship CLX. The Ethos loudspeaker completes the series called Reserve ESL by the American manufacturer. It includes the CLX, Summit X and Spire loudspeakers. The last two use a hybrid and electrostatic technology like the new Ethos.
The structure of the Ethos is basically a small-sized reproduction of the Summit X and the Spire. They consist of an XStat electrostatic panel which is thinner than the Summit X and the Spire ones: 23 centimeters in comparison with 29 cm of the bigger classes.
For the bass, Ethos also utilizes an 8-inch frontal woofer with a 200 watt class-D amplifier, controlled by a 24-bit Vojtko DSP circuit (named after the designer Martin Logan).
A second 8-inch passive radiator facing downwards increases even further the performance of Ethos on a low range.
Ethos’ performance, which usually requires a 50 to 500 watt amplification, is able to reproduce the 34 to 23,000 Hz range, with a crossover frequency set at 375Hz.
In comparison, the Spire goes down to 29 Hz with a cut-off of 320 Hz. In the Summit X these values are equal to 24 and 270 Hz. |
